PAILS OF KINDNESS: for Typhoon Victims of Calumpit, Bulacan
Two hundred and fifty families from different barangays of Calumpit, Bulacan benefited from pails of goods donated by the PJ Lhuillier Group of Companies (PJLGC), headed by its president and Chief Executive Officer, Jean Henri Lhuillier. The relief operation was led by the PJ Lhuillier Foundation, Inc., (PJLFI), in cooperation with Father Fernando Suarez and company, on October 9, 2011 at St. John the Baptist Parish in Calumpit.
Calumpit was one of the flood-stricken towns in Bulacan due to the onslaught of typhoons Pedring and Quiel. The water released from dams, which reached critical levels, added to the flooding. Reports said that this was the worst flood in Calumpit in 40 years. A total of 22 Barangays were affected by the waist-deep floods.
Despite heavy rains on Sunday afternoon, Team Foundation with present and graduate scholars of the Foundation pushed through with the distribution of relief items to extend help to typhoon victims in said town.
Each of the 250 pails brought by the Foundation contained three kilos of rice and 21 pieces of assorted grocery items, which was worth P400 each. The pail itself will also help to the typhoon victims. The Parish Priests of Calumpit assisted in the operation.
PJLFI Executive Trustee and Corporate Secretary Attorney Cesar Vidal offered his home for the sorting of donation items, with the help of the PJLFI staff and scholars.
This relief operation was one of the special projects of the PJ Lhuillier Foundation, Inc. as a way of helping fellow kababayans who were affected by the calamity. It also immersed the scholars in community works, which helped them in their personal and social development.
